I want Alexandra Burke’s hair!

"I want Alexandra Burke's hair!"
Alexandra Burke1

She might dally with a Bad Boy, but when it comes to the relationship with her one true mane, Alexandra Burke knows how to pull out the stops. In the blink of an eye, she effortlessly swaps her lush lengths for a colour infused bob or plays it cool with a shaggy midi that knocks up the points on her superstar status. 'It's been great watching Alexandra blossom since her time in X Factor,' says Lalah, afro specialist at Gielly Green. 'This year she has really come into her own and is not afraid to wear directional styles that are out of the box.'

The benefits of shattered layers is that it gives fine hair instant movement and texture. For the post grunge, unkempt effect, Lalah advises the following: 'Apply wax from root to tip and blast cold air from the hairdryer with your head upside down and shake it out using your fingers.' To drive attention to the eyes work in a full fringe or add slices of colour for depth and variation.

'A good stylist can tailor a fringe to suit you and accentuate your best features,' explains 5ive, director at Hype Coiffure, Battersea.

On first glance, you'd be forgiven for thinking this hairstyle is complicated and should be left in the hands of a styling pro, but as Sylvia Oliver from Nicky Oliver describes, there's not much to it. 'Simply tie your back and leave out a section on top for the quiff. Fold the hair under and loosely pin it in place.' The key is to avoid perfection and to finish off with gloss products.

To show the contrasting lengths in all its full glory, smooth out the longer sections and curl the shorter ends. 'If you're going out, change your parting from the centre to the side for an elegant sweeping fringe,' suggests Natasha John-Lewis from Atherton Cox
