ABOUT ME

'I am a beauty aficionado and I love the industry, the products and the business of beauty itself. I started my blog because I wanted to give a voice to the experiences, needs and adventures of a proud black British woman and her beauty expeditions! So far the response to my blog has been fantastic. My posts tend to be quite in depth as I do like to sink my teeth into each article -- I suppose that is the academic in me as I am a human genetics graduate and was a biology research scientist in my former life! I use my blog to inform and also hopefully enlighten, and many of my subscribers enjoy the debate that my posts often provoke, as well as the general information about the best products for women of colour. I am always trying new things but there are some items that are my all time favourites and will always be found in my make-up bag or on my bathroom shelf.

Beauty crush

"Michelle Obama has a class and elegance that's timeless and I really admire that".

HAIR HEROES

I am the ultimate girly girl and love wearing hair extensions for the many styling options they afford. I swear by Frizz-Ease Thermal Serum (£5.99/50ml) to protect against heat damage and to replenish the sheen to my hair -- without weighing it down. I try to not use too much heat on my hair extensions so I curl my hair with bendy rollers, keeping them in overnight. I add a touch of Mizani Foam Wrap 15.85/250ml) lotion for extra hold.

SECRET WEAPON

I believe the most striking beauty feature of any woman, irrespective of her skin tone, shape or size, is her smile. It reveals her inner beauty and radiates her personality. I keep my smile in tip-top shape with my trusty Oral-B Vitality electric toothbrush (£34.99).

WAVING THE FLAG

FOR BRITAIN I have relatively oily skin so I love REN's Mayblossom TZone Control Cleansing Gel (£17/150ml) because the natural formulation is not too drying. My favourite moisturiser at the moment is Liz Earle's Superskin Moisturiser (£36/50ml) -- although it's for dry skin, I find that it moisturises and preps nicely for my foundation. I also champion these brands because they're British and are excellent examples of the recent entrepreneurship that has characterised the beauty industry here in the UK!.

BEAUTY FAVES

I recently tried the new offering from Lancme Teint Idole Ultra 24H in Sienne (shade 13). It gives a light, long lasting coverage and has a subtle floral fragrance which was surprising, but pleasant upon application.

My fragrance of the moment is L'air de rien by Miller Harris. It transforms throughout the day, into a warm, enveloping scent.

I wear Eylure Double Lashes (£7.10) everyday! The dual strips add volume and glamour and they can be used time and time again.
