Black Beauty /Sensationnel Hair Awards

The Hilton London Metropole was buzzing with anticipation as hundreds of top afro stylists from the UK and Europe gathered for the prestigious Black Beauty/Sensationnel Hair Awards 2012 ceremony. The evening got off to a great start as Choice FM’s DJ Kojo delivered a rip-roaring comedy routine that had everyone in tears of laughter. The big TV channels should snap up this clever and funny comedian — he has star quality! This was followed by an incredible avant-garde hair show called Extraordinary Divas — which they certainly were! The show was put together by multi award-winning avant-garde stylist George Kosit and his creative team. Using beautiful models, stunning clothes and amazing hair, he put together a show that was a visual treat for the eyes and senses. Great entertainment from a great talent!

But the evening was all about the stylists’ creativity. From the many that entered the competition, 60 entries had made the cut as finalists in the 13 categories which included one new category, Natural Stylist of the Year. The judges had their work cut out to choose the 13 winners for the night. For the first time in the history of the competition, now in its 18th year, there were more female than male finalists in Stylist of the Year category that was deservedly won by Charlotte Mensah of Hair Lounge in London . There was a dead heat in the International Stylist of the Year where Elsmainy Jergo – No Jokes Salon, Holland and Darko Pandurski – Hair Chair, Serbia became the competition’s first joint winners.
