Black Beauty & Hair readers Janet and Jenny get a makeover Clients Twins, Janet Jackson and Jennifer Wilson Age 35 Dress size 12 Occupations Housing Officer and Childminder Problem What do we wear from this season’s key trends? The white look is this season’s big trend. It is light, fresh and innocent, and has re-emerged stronger than ever this summer. Look out for petticoat styles and peasant skirts with their frilled trim 4 Jenny (right) looks great in this linen-look tunic and cropped two-piece trouser suit. Don’t forget to accessorise with a decorative belt. Cotton top (£25) and cropped trousers (£25) both by Freemans. Mirrored belt (£12) by Accessorise and white slip-on shoes (£44.99) by Vagabond. Janet (left) shows how to interpret this look for the evening. The white trouser suit is a must this summer, and this one in particular – just check out that unbeatable price! To make the most of the suit, try mixing and matching. White tuxedo suit (£60) by Freemans, gold diamanté stilettos (£40) by Moda in Pelle, and red lace bra (£24.99) by Ann Summers 5 Now it’s Jenny’s turn (left) to show how to wear the cowgirl look in the evening, with colours in line with the wild west, and of course using leather to get that full ranch style. Beige asymetrical top (£70) by Wale Adeyemi, brown leather skirt (£80) by Code, and gold diamanté stilettos (£40) again by Moda in Pelle. 6 ‘I think this is a fantastic everyday look for summer,’ says Janet. This design looks great, especially when the look is teamed with these summer accessories of fringed belt and cowboy boots. Beige cotton dress (£25) by Freemans, suede fringed belt (£15) by Top Shop, and cowboy boots, stylist’s own. 7 Jenny is very comfortable wearing bright colours, so we decide to go to town with this gypsy look. The outfit is completed by simply placing a flower into Jenny’s hair. Red peasant top (£18) by Freemans, pink floral flamenco (£50) skirt by Freemans, and red mules model’s own. 8 Janet shows another way to interpret the gypsy look that is huge this season – by wearing that striking combination, black and white. Black smock top (£30) by Code, black and white floral skirt (£28) by Freemans and silver butterfly stilletos (£45) by Moda in Pelle. 9 Now for a close-up It’s all in the detail and make-up artist Christina Devi makes the most of this. For Jenny she uses a fresh neutral palette as a base and strengthens eye colour with the prettiest of rose pinks. 10Hairstylist Charlotte Mensah knows the girls love weaves, so she gives each a weave that is light and extremely versatile. For Jennifer, Charlotte decides on a graduated microbraided bob that is coloured aubergine before being razor-cut into style. Janet is given a shoulder-length, microbraided bob, which is coloured a rich mahogany/copper with light copper-gold highlights before being razor-cut to a shoulder length style. 11 Janet is ready for her close-up. Her style typifies this season’s weaves, which are light, layered and full of colour.
