We’re so used to seeing this look on blonde, white women, can women of colour wear pastel hair? Absolutely! Women of colour can wear different types of colours, shades and tones. It’s all about experimentation and finding what works for you and your hair. Always chat to your stylist first to make sure you can achieve that ultimate hair goal.

How can we pull the look off successfully? Whether you are dark or light-skinned, you need to determine whether you are a cool or warm skin tone. This can be done by visiting your colour expert for a skin tone analysis to determine the best colour suitable for you. Here at Francesco Group, we offer complimentary colour consultations to our clients, in order to maximise colour opportunities and allow them to put a colour plan in place to achieve their hair goal.

What are good ways of faking it? The best way to fake it without damaging your hair is using hairpieces and weaves. This is great as it completely changes a look and doesn’t cause damage to the hair! Again, I would always say visit your salon colourist for professional advice.

What are the do’s and don’ts for WOC (women of colour) wearing pastel hair?

✔ Do go for a consultation with a colour expert – this is absolutely necessary.

✔ Do get professional advice to see whether your hair can withstand a colour service.

✘ Don’t try to achieve these colours by yourself at home. With afro hair being so dark in pigment it can throw off a lot of the warmer tones. Uneven application can then result in uneven results.

✘ Never, never, never apply bleach on top of a relaxer. This can result in breakage on the wrong hair type.
