Our BBH health sleuth goes undercover for a tried & tested pamper at the Dalston-based beauty salon

Town spa’s are a rarity but Smooth You, which has been opened for eight months, has got the idea spot on. As soon as you step through the glass doors you leave behind the buzzy vibe of Dalston, entering a zone of high-end serenity with matching high gloss floors. There are six treatment rooms with state of the art sunbeds, and the beauty rooms each have a shower and the softest velour towels.

There are number of branded facials you can choose from, but after my consultation with Gabi who suggested that my skin was decongested and needed brightening, I opted for the Murad Sun Undone Infusion Facial. Whereas sun damage may not be the first concern for black skin, the pure vitamin C ingredients lightens blemishes and reduces breakouts.

After cleansing and toning, a machine pumped out a delicate mist of steam to open the pores. With my eyes closed I could hear Gabi mixing a face masque that was massaged on and gently wiped away. In total three masques were applied and while they were left on, Gabi gave a deeply relaxing head massage – and it’s worth highlighting that she can expertly work around hair extensions.

Evidently, the products used are not harsh, because afterwards the appearance of my skin looked radiant and smooth without any blotchiness. If you really want to tackle problematic skin, a course of six treatments is recommended. Make-up can be applied straight away but why lose that natural glow?
