Celebrity and award-winning hairstylist Dionne Smith reveals the hair colour trends for autumn

Lockdown has got many of us opting for hair-cuts that mean less maintenance and with talks of a potential second wave, meaning colour appointments and touch-ups may be harder to come by. Celebrity and award-winning hairstylist, Dionne Smith (left) who styles the likes of Regina King, Kiki Layne and Venus Williams to name but a few, recommends the top five beautiful hues that will not only revive lackluster post-lockdown hair, the low-maintenance colour means you can forgo the touch-up appointments too.
The colour mood as we move into autumn/winter this year is very much soft, natural tones that enhance your hair’s natural base colour.
Super subtle, healthy colour is on trend. The key to nailing this trend is embracing the natural beauty of your hair, with your hairdresser working to highlight the best bits and disguise any unwanted hues or tones coming through.

Pumpkin Spice

‘The drink of the season is also the order of the day when it comes to your hair colour, the perfect update to brunettes who are looking for a multi-tonal and glamorous update, ask your hairdresser for  a mix of copper and caramel highlights’

Espresso

‘This deep dark hue is dark at the root, with a mahogany balayage, for those with dark hair this is the ultimate low-maintenance colour by keeping the roots natural meaning less root touch-ups. Ask for mocha brown balayage to be painted on framing the face and around the ends.’

Auburn Red

‘The perfect red for blondes wanting to try going red. Red is the colour of the moment and season, however cherry reds and bright reds require maintenance. An auburn red is the perfect transitional colour for blondes and unlike the bright scarlets, this more natural-looking hue can be kept vibrant with colour maintenance.’

Sunkissed Blonde

‘I predict many of my clients who go for icy blondes and all-over bleach will be opting for warmer sun-kissed blonde hues. The ultimate goal is holiday hair. Babylights are placed in the areas that the sun would hit with natural brown used around the roots and in-between’

Warm Gold

For afro/natural hairstyles, weave in gold extensions into a protective braid style. This beautiful gilded gold will add a luxe update for autumn, whilst box braids keep this hair even more low-maintenance.’
