Competition Details

The promotion begins at 00am GMT on Tuesday 25th April 2017 and closes at 12:00am GMT on Wednesday 10th May 2017.
All photo entries must be headshots submitted through the competition page between these dates. Any entries received after this closing date will not be accepted.
The judging period to choose a winner will take place at the Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE exhibition on 28th May 2017.
The winner and runners up will be announced at the Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE exhibition on 28th May 2017.
Incomplete entries, entries on behalf of another person (except for those nominating a colleague or student with their permission), entries on social media, and joint or syndicate entries will not be accepted.
Four different entries can be accepted. In the event of a duplicate of the same entry, only the first submitted entry will be considered for the competition.
Entries should be the sole original photo by the entrant or nominee. Any evidence of plagiarism and theft of the image may result in the entrant being removed from the competition.
Images that fulfil the criteria laid out in the terms and conditions will be displayed by the promoter in the competition online gallery. Entrants whose images do not fulfil the criteria will not appear in the gallery.
Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE is not obliged to publish or promote every submitted entry via its social media pages.
The promoter reserves the right to refuse any entry that is believed to be in breach of the terms and conditions.
Entry photos or video thumbnails may be displayed in marketing material which will be in the public domain, so entrants must ensure that only suitable photographic material is uploaded.
Entries will not be considered as part of this promotion if, at the sole discretion of Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE, they contain language, imagery that is in any way threatening, abusive, offensive, defamatory, invasive of another’s privacy, in breach of confidence, embarrassing to any person or likely to deceive any person, hateful, bullying, blasphemous, obscene, vulgar, pornographic, threatening, or racist, sexist, ethnically discriminatory, or otherwise objectionable or which constitutes or encourages conduct that would be considered a criminal offence or otherwise contrary to and violate any law.
Entries must not contain any material which is defamatory of any person, or is obscene, offensive, discriminatory, illegal, hateful or inflammatory; be threatening, abusive or invade another’s privacy, or cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety; or be likely to harass, upset, embarrass alarm or annoy any other person. Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE reserves the right to refuse any entry which it considers contravenes these provisions or for any other reason at its absolute discretion.
Entrants warrant that any photographs submitted are their own or have gained permission from the nominee and photographer, and that the relevant entrant/nominee owns the copyright and any other relevant rights, and that they will hold AHBLive and its agencies harmless in relation to any third party claims relating to such rights.
The entrant/nominee will retain full copyright for the entry and wherever possible will be credited and referenced for the image within this competition.
The entrant/nominee agrees to the use of their submission for further promotional purposes by Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE, and for any PR purposes, which may arise regarding the competition.
Entries will be judged on the creativity of the entry. The type of treatment or consideration (natural, weave, wigs, braids etc) entered will have no effect on the results of the competition.

Competition Entry Requirements

The competition is open to any hairdresser who uses Instagram to promote their hairdressing services
Entrants/nominees must be: hairdressing students, hairdressing juniors, registered hairdressers, mobile hairdressers, home hairdressers
It is a two-tier competition. The top five stylists who get the most Instagram votes will be put forward for a live model competition, which will take place at Afro Hair & Beauty Show LIVE, where they will be judged by a panel of experts.
This competition involves hair entrants submitting photos from their Instagram profile/s demonstrating their best hair looks to the Shortstack competition page. These images can also then be shared by the entrant or the promoter on Afrohairshow.com and Black Beauty & Hair’s social media pages, once the photo has been submitted through the competition entry page.
The submission requires:

The entrant/nominee’s name.
Their occupation.
Their mobile number.
A photo of the created look.
The entrant’s/nominee’s details, including email address and phone number, for Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE to get in touch if the entrant or the nominee is a finalist.

It’s a photographic hair competition, so entries should incorporate elements of hairstyling, using relaxers natural hair, weaves, wigs, braids or extensions.
The submission photo should show the nominee, or a willing customer or model displaying or demonstrating the created look. Verbal permission must be gained before the photos are entered if the photos are not of the entrant/nominee and the entrant/nominee or model is under the age of 16.
Photos must be clean and should not show nudity or uncovered body parts considered rude or gratuitous.
The type of technique (hair, natural, weave, wig etc.) entered will have no effect on the results of the competition.
Entrants/nominees can also then share their submission on social media following entry through the competition page, with the hashtag #AfroHairShowComp to the following:

Please note, the sharing of your image will not be counted as a competition entry. All competition entries should be submitted through the Shortstack page.

The number of votes will be taken into judging consideration, but this will not be exclusive to the final decision of the winners.
Entries must be submitted and live by the closing date of 12:00am GMT on Tuesday 2nd May 2017
Entrants/nominees may enter up to four different photographs, but these must not be duplicates of the same image. Only one image per stylist/haircare brand will ultimately be put forward for the finalist consideration.
Entry photos may be in black and white or in colour.
Entrants/nominees can enter an image of the created hairstyle created at any time in the past, provided the relevant permission is given first.
Retouching/manipulation of digital images is accepted, provided this is kept to a minimum so as not to detract from the entrant’s/nominee’s real hairdressing skills and that all works are original works and not copies of other people’s works.
Any copied or stolen images or footage from a source which is not the entrant’s/nominee’s and without the owner’s permission will be disqualified.
All photos will be subject to moderation and approval before being placed into a gallery. This may take a few days.
Entrants must only upload their or their nominee’s images that do not infringe or violate the rights of any third party, including but not limited to, ownership, copyrights, trademarks, patents, logos, licensing rights, rights of publicity or privacy, or any other intellectual property rights.
Participants warrant that any person featured in their photo or video submission has given their express verbal permission and any model or entrant (aged under 18 years) has parental or guardian consent to enter or be shown in the entry photos.
Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE will not enter into conversation on site, through social or in person, regarding the selection of the finalist images.
The five images with the most votes will be selected as our competition finalists
The finalists will have to appear on the Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE exhibition stage with a live model, where they will be judged by a panel.
The winner and runners-up will be selected from this shortlist by a judging panel, including Black Beauty & Hair editor-in-chief Irene Shelley, for the most creative live model, as determined by the panel in its absolute discretion.
The promoter will also be judging on the adhering to the terms and conditions. The number of votes will be taken into consideration but this will not be a deciding factor.
Finalists will be asked to attend Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE exhibition with a finished model look. The winner and runners up will be announced at the exhibition.

The competition prize is eligible only to entrants living in the UK, and entrants or the nominee’s must have created the look submitted. Someone else may have taken the photo but they must be credited in the submission.
By entering or submitting the nominee’s photos, the entrant/nominee agree for the submission to be displayed by Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE on the competition page gallery, on Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE’s social media pages, in Black Beauty & Hair magazine or Black Beauty & Hair’s social media pages, in any further promotional social posts or promotional material during or after the competition.
By submitting a photo or video to the competition the entrant/nominee consents to Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE adding marketing or design collateral to submitted images, and cropping them in any way the promoter sees fit.
Entry photos or videos must not:

Be deemed unsuitable, offensive, obscene, or about hate.
Show nudity.
Show children without parent or guardian consent.
Show children who are not fully covered.
Contain excessive branding.
Be violent or negative to entrants or of any ethnic, racial, gender, religious, professional, or age group.
Promote the use of alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons, any activities that are illegal, unsafe or dangerous, or any particular political agenda or message.
Defame, misrepresent or contain negative remarks about the promoter or its products, or other people, products, or companies.
Contain trademarks owned by others or advertise or promote any brand or product of any kind, without permission, or contain any personal identification, such as licence plate numbers, personal names, email addresses or street addresses.

Safety and Precautions

Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE will not be liable for any accidents or injuries to the entrants or other parties sustained as a result of this competition.
By entering the competition, the participant agrees to release the Promoter from any liability whatsoever for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or, in connection, with the promotion or with the acceptance, possession, attendance at or use of any prize (except death or personal injury caused by the Promoter’s negligence, for fraud, or otherwise as prohibited by law).
Please only send an entry which the entrant/nominee is happy to be included on our social pages and in our online gallery.

Competition Winners

The finalists will be notified by email. All entrants must ensure they provide a valid email address with the photo or video entry, and must be contactable on the same email address provided. These subsequent contact details will be treated with the utmost care in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, and will not be published online or re-used for promotional material or sold to any third parties.
There will be one overall winner, plus and a second and third place runner up, selected from the live model.
The competition winners will be selected by the competition entry and the live model, which best satisfies the criteria listed in the terms and conditions.
Entries will be judged on the creativity of the entry. The type of hair used (natural, relaxed, weave, wig or braids etc.) pictured will have no effect on the results of the competition.
The competition winners will be selected by the judging panel, comprising; top UK hairdressers, bloggers and Black Beauty & Hair editor-in-chief Irene Shelley, based on the creativity of the live model entry, and the adhering to the terms and conditions. The number of votes will be taken into consideration but this will not be a deciding factor.
The winners will be announced at Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE 28th May 2017

Prizes will be issued at the Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE exhibition.
In the event of unforeseen circumstances or availability the promoter reserves the right to substitute any prize or provide alternative prizes of equal or greater value without giving notice.
The prizes are non-transferable.
In all cases the promoter’s decision is final and no correspondence about this decision will be entered into.
To ensure fairness and the integrity of the promotion to all participants, the promoter will not enter into discussions regarding the running of this promotion via Short Stack, Instagram, or through direct contact.
Any entrant posting or seen to be posting comments or images to Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE’s website, Instagram, Facebook or Twitter pages, or elsewhere during the competition that are considered bullying, spiteful or upsetting to other contestants or directly aimed at the entrants or models featured in the entrant’s photo submission, or the promoter and/or intended to damage the reputation or goodwill of Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE will have their comments removed and will be disqualified from the competition. We reserve the right to alert Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to any such behaviour and entrant/nominee may have the account frozen pending investigation.
If the finalist is unable to attend Afro Hair & Beauty Live with their live model, their place in the competition will be forfeited. A new finalist will then be selected from the remaining entries to take their place.
Losing entries will not receive any notification.
Winners will be notified at the Afro Hair & Beauty Show on 28th May 2017.
By entering this competition and submitting an email address the entrant has opted into future communication from the promoter via email.
These subsequent contact details will be treated with the utmost care in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, and will not be re-used for promotional material or sold to any third parties.
The winners will be promoted on Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE and Black Beauty & Hair’s social media pages, including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, along with their winning photo.
It is a condition of entry that all terms and conditions are accepted as final and all entrants agree to abide by these terms and conditions.

Terms and Conditions

These terms and conditions refer to the Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE’s “Afro Hair Show Competition 2017” Instagram photo competition.
Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE will also be referred to as Afro Hair & Beauty, AHBLive, afrohairshow.com, and the promoter within these terms and conditions.
The competition is open only to residents of the UK, and entrants are subject to acceptance of these terms and conditions.
The competition is open to any hairstylist who uses Instagram to promote their hairdressing services.
Entrants/nominee must be 18 or over
Entrants or nominees can be trainee, apprentice, student, junior, registered hairdresser, mobile hairdresser, home hairdresser over 18 years old.
By entering this competition all participants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by these terms and conditions. All entry instructions form part of these terms and conditions.
The entries and information the entrant/nominee supplies is collected on Afro Hair & Beauty’s behalf by behalf by Short Stack and Short Stack’s use of the information will be subject to its Privacy Policy http://www.shortstack.com/privacy-policy . By submitting the entry the entrant/nominee consents to their personal data being used in this way.
The competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Instagram or Shortstack. The information the entrant/nominee provides will only be used for the competition by Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE, not Instagram or Shortstack.
By entering the competition all participants and nominees accept that they will have no claim against AHBLive, Short Stack, Instagram whatsoever and agree to give AHBLive, Short Stack, Instagram a complete liability release from any and all legal liability in connection with the promotion.
Employees or agencies of Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE, their family members, or anyone else professionally connected with the promoter or promotion cannot enter the competition.
Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE accepts no liability or responsibility for entries lost, delayed, misdirected, incomplete or undelivered, nor any liability for technical errors or communication failures in networks and/or internet access or for any other reason. Proof of submitting an entry will not be accepted as proof of receipt by the Promoter.
Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE and partners reserves the right at any time to change, update or amend these terms and conditions. An updated version of the terms and conditions would be published as soon as possible.
The promoter reserves the right at any time and from time to time to amend, discontinue, temporarily or permanently withdraw this competition and these terms and conditions without prior notice due to reasons outside their control, and the entrant agrees that no liability shall be attached to the promoter as a result thereof.
The promoter reserves the right to cancel or amend the promotion and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the promoter’s control. Any changes to the promotion will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by the promoter.
This promotion and these terms and conditions of entry are governed by UK Law and the courts of the UK shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with this promotion.

Disclaimer

By taking part and submitting an entry, entrants and nominees agree to the use of their photo or video submission by Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE (and its advertising, promotion and other agencies) to use in its advertising, marketing, publicity or promotional materials. Entrants therefore grant a worldwide licence to the use of their photo or video submission and all personal details included, such as name and occupation.
All photos will be publicly available, both online and in print through media coverage, and entrants agree for their entry image or footage to be used in this way and in further promotions by Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE and Black Beauty & Hair.
Entrants and nominees agree to take part in any post-competition publicity, including photography, video interviews and telephone interviews. Entrants and nominees may also on occasion be asked to provide journalists with personal details such as name and occupation.
By entering this competition entrants and nominees agree to participate in media interviews should it be requested.
By entering the competition, entrants and nominees agree that Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE can collect, save and process the personal data and images provided, in media relations and social media, for the sole purposes of the competition.
Entrants and nominees agree that the photo is original and is not a copy of anyone else’s, and the use of the photo will not infringe any rights (such as intellectual property, privacy, (and confidentiality or data protection) belonging to others, and the details submitted are true.
Entrants and nominees can confirm that they are the owner of the photo or video and therefore able to grant this licence to use it. Entrants and nominees are also providing permission on behalf of themselves, their family, friends and others who are seen in the photo or video and entrants confirm that they agree to this licence.
If requested by Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE, entrants and nominees agree to sign (and arrange for the others in the photo to sign) any documents to confirm this.
This permission, from the entrant, nominees and model, covers all forms of use including without limit television, print, online (including Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE and Black Beauty & Hair’s websites and social channels), newspapers, magazines, digital and social media, and all other forms of media now and in the future anywhere in the world.
The licence is royalty-free, irrevocable and the period of usage is unlimited.
Participants hereby agree to defend, indemnify and hold Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE harmless from and against any and all losses, and all claims by third parties, resulting from an entrant’s breach of any of these terms and conditions.
Afro Hair & Beauty LIVE shall not be liable for any delay in performing or partial or total failure to perform any of its obligations to the winner under these terms and if such delay or failure is caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including without limitation; delays, changes, disruptions, cancellations, diversions or substitutions howsoever caused including without limitation as a result of war, terrorist action or threatened terrorist action, strikes, hostilities, civil commotions, accidents, fire, flood and natural catastrophes. Without prejudice to the foregoing, neither the Promoter nor its partners shall be liable for damage of any nature suffered from (or in connection with) participating in the promotion and/or prize, to the extent permitted by law.
If for any reason any aspect of this promotion is not capable of running as planned, including by reason of infection by computer virus, network failure, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any cause beyond the control of the Promoter which corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, the promoter may in its sole discretion cancel, terminate, modify these terms and conditions or suspend the promotion, or invalidate any affected entries.
