BlackPerfumers recently announced the release of its new, expanded fragrance finder this holiday season. A convenient, searchable directory that connects fragrance enthusiasts with global Black-owned fragrance businesses.

The directory was set up by scent designer and writer Elle, who founded BlackPerfumers.com to make a change in the visibility and representation of Black perfumers, which until 2020 had been sorely lacking.

BlackPerfumers.com has a commitment to increasing public awareness of Black perfumers and representation for Black-owned fragrance brands in the beauty sector. In fact, if it wasn’t for Elle, we wouldn’t have known about the Black perfumers featured in this article for Blackbeautyandhair.com. Online visitors can search the directory by fragrance categories or by locations to narrow down fragrance brands to suit their needs.

“Our directory helps people search for the kinds of fragrances they want by prominent notes or even by region,” says Elle. “But it also establishes a living archive of fragrance businesses and brands by Black founders.” The directory can also serve the beauty industry at-large with insights into market and demographic trends.

Elle’s digital platform and initiative introduced the Train Your Nose Scholarship for emerging Black perfumers. Also highlighting established Black perfumers, she offers industry resources, interviews, consulting, and valuable information for fragrance makers interested in scent cultures and aromatics of the Black diaspora.
