Achieve Better Posture With Posture Shirt 2.0: Tried & Tested

A UK startup company ActivePosture has teamed up with the California based apparel innovator AlignMed to introduce the Posture Shirt 2.0 to the UK market

According to the NHS, eight in every 10 people in the UK are affected by back pain at some stage in their lives. With poor posture often leading to back related issues, people can now find relief by wearing the Posture Shirt 2.0 (£89.95). Recently seen on Justin Beiber and worn by NBA sports stars, the shirt features exclusive patented NeuroBand technology inspired by Kinesio-taping. The fabric is also moisture wicking and antimicrobial – making it perfect for wearing when exercising.

Unlike traditional compression shirts, the Posture Shirt 2.0 does not overtake muscle functionality or brace the wearer. Instead, it makes the user aware of his or her posture. This process leads to the activation of the back muscles making these stronger. As it is the muscles doing the work, not the shirt, over time the user will gain muscle memory and still feel the effect when the shirt is not worn. This ensures that after around six months, the user will no longer be dependent on the shirt, but will be able to feel and correct the posture without wearing it.

POSTURE SHIRT 2.0 REVIEW

Our BBH tester Felix put the Posture Shirt 2.0 to the test

BBH Tester Felix found the Posture Shirt 2.0 helpful

‘I tend to slouch a bit with my shoulders forward when I’m standing up straight,’ says our tester Felix North, who wanted to try the Posture Shirt 2.0 to help with his posture. ‘My girlfriend is continuously reminding  me to stand up straighter.

‘The Posture Shirt 2.0 has instantly improved my posture while wearing it. Hopefully wearing it long enough will help with long term results. It will be good in winter, as  it’s pretty warming under layers.

It’s hard to wear with normal T-shirts as it can be seen under clothing. But it works with shirts and my work uniform and it’s fine with workout wear.

It doesn’t feel tight when it’s on, you can forget that you’ve got it on after a while. It’s a struggle to take off though, because it’s so fitted and you can’t pull it off because it might tear the ribbing.

I don’t know if I was achey because of it or through work but I do feel it in my shoulders as I’m using different muscles due to the change in posture.’

Active Posture says, Felix’s soreness is probably a result of the newly engaged muscles working more than they are used to. “As he wears the shirt, he will be activating his own muscles, so there is a possibility that he will become tired or get sore muscles. We recommend to start with one or two hours a day, working your way up, always listening to your body, as the new alignment will take some time to adapt to. It is not dangerous to wear for longer, but as with any new muscle activity you’ll feel it after prolonged periods of use until the muscles regain strength.

If you start to get tired or feel a bit sore, it’s always good to let your body recover. It’s like training in a gym, or when you go running. You don’t start with 100 pull-ups or a marathon, you need to build it up and listen to your body.

After a period of time, depending on how often and how long you use the shirt, you will gain muscle memory, because the muscles are doing the work. When you take the shirt off, you will still notice its effect. This ensures that after a long while (perfect scenario is approx. 6 months) you will not be dependent on the shirt, you will be able to feel and correct your posture without the Posture Shirt 2.0. It’s still recommend to keep using the Posture Shirt 2.0 maybe every 2nd/3rd/4th day just to “keep it up”.

Sounds ok, but I would like to know if this Posture Shirt 2.0 is just for people who are working out, or for people who suffer with a bad back?

      Hi there,
The Posture Shirt 2.0 is designed for people who suffer from bad backs. It’s designed to help relieve back pain through the NeuroBand technology, inspired by Kinesio-taping. The fact that it’s also great for workouts is an added bonus but that's not it’s main purpose.
